Aura in Cambridge is a development of contemporary townhouses with small to medium rear gardens.
This commission was by a family living in a four storey town house with double height full width glass across the entire rear elevation. The brief was to create a dual use garden with two zones; one for adults and the other for sports play.
The design solution was to split the garden lengthways and create an entertaining area across the entire width of the family room and kitchen. A play area of astroturf was then positioned to the rear section and screened with Corten steel obelisks and walls clad in basalt flagstones.
Paving of basalt flagstones and dark Belgian Vande Moortel bricks laid in alternate strips across the whole width and mirrored by a narrow pool with foaming jets acted to keep the eye within this section of garden.
Planting was entirely evergreen with accents of copper coloured Carex to harmonise with the Corten walls.
Note: Corten Steel rusts to form a bright orange protective layer. The steel in the images below has not yet oxidised to form this layer.
