Acordia Roof Terrace
Accordia in Cambridge is a RIBA award winning development of contemporary three storey townhouses. This project was for a rectangular terrace located on the first floor. The brief was for modern garden in harmony with the architecture and the client’s interior design style.
Despite its relatively small foot print it was decided to create a split level asymmetric ground pattern, which would act to lead the eye, zone the terrace and give an illusion of space. The dining and relaxation zones were to be wrapped in planting and trees, housed in raised beds clad in hardwood and copper; materials used throughout the development.
A slate and stainless steel water wall was to be mounted on the high level wall, acting as a focal point and giving the illusion of feeding a stainless steel rill dropping water into a copper clad tank on the lower level.
To reduce maintenance, the garden was to be planted with drought resistant plants. Four Olive trees would provide enclosure and were to be under planted with Lavandula ‘Hidcote’.
